This is a supersized special issue. The first half or so of the issue is a fully story, but the rest is made of up these one or two-page things by various artists and writers. The second half is actually what I really like about it and what I’m going to be talking about here.

Adam Hughes has a two-page spread with Kara on the top half, and Babs on the bottom half, with a few panels each that have no dialogue or narration, but speak pretty clearly for themselves. The only text in this are the words “Worlds end...but life goes on.” I can’t even express how much I love this.

There’s another two-page spread written by J.T. Krul and drawn by Francis Manapul, titled ‘Friendly Advice’, in which Conner has an awkward question for Clark, Dick tries to give some helpful advice but can’t help some big brother teasing, and Clark really doesn’t like hypothetical questions.

‘Night and Day’ is a two-page story, but what’s really special about it is the second page, which actually follows on from Superman/Batman #52. Batman has taken the murdered Superman back to their world (where Robin is the cutest bucktoothed little thing), and he’s ridiculously adorable and utterly heartbroken about Superman’s death. And then Robin notices that Superman is not actually dead, just sleeping.

David Finch and Scott Williams have a two-page story named ‘Eternal’, which takes place in the future, on what seems to be the anniversary of Bruce and Clark’s deaths. Conner and Damian, now Superman and Batman, call a truce on this one day. Damian seems to be having trouble dealing with – well, the world – and now that Bruce is gone, he thinks he has nothing, because he never wanted to let his father down, and Conner reminds him why they do it, why Superman and Batman can never die.
